If you read my previous post, you would have picked up on the fact that I bought a new engagement ring and might have a few questions as to why! So, let me explain...
The ring my husband proposed with was indeed the ring I had chosen. I saw it online and thought it was exactly what I wanted which was, stones on the outside with a bigger stone in the centre. What I didn't realise was that the centre diamond was actually made up of multiple little diamonds. As I hadn't seen the ring in store and simply saw it online, it wasn't quite the same and looked smaller in person. Yet in saying this, when my husband proposed with the ring I loved it. As time passed by however, I noticed how cloudy the diamonds were becoming regardless of how much I was cleaning the ring. I began to be disappointed that the ring did not look the same as when Jacob proposed. A small diamond also fell out of the ring early last year.
Since choosing this engagement ring I have learnt a few things. One being that not all diamonds are the same and actually differ in clarity (cloudiness and sparkle). The second realisation being that educating yourself on diamonds and or diamond alternatives is SO IMPORTANT! The third being that moissanite is an incredible diamond alternative that can save you thousands. And the fourth being that you need to learn how to look after your ring and promote longevity.
So how did I get to buying a new engagement ring?
We starting putting aside spare change in a coin jar over the period of a year. When we were then able to sell my wedding dress, we were able to afford the new ring. Although it doesn't quite have the same sentimental value as the original ring, it reminds me of my wedding dress as it was largely funded by the sale of it. At the end of the day is it the same? No it isn't, but now I have a ring I truly love and will last me my lifetime!
