OUR PROPOSAL STORY

It's funny to look back on now because originally we planned to get married in July of this year (2019) and when I proposed the thought of getting married six months earlier, it was a radical thought. As we weren't sure of exactly how long we would be studying at bible college, it seemed wiser and more practical to get married in November and then have a long break off over summer instead of in July where we would only have two weeks (had we chosen to continue studying) . As radical of a thought it seemed to us, we decided it made sense. So of course me being an excited bride, aged 18, started planning our wedding in the late months of 2017.

I knew the proposal was coming however, I didn't know when. I mentioned to Jacob how nice it would be to be engaged before Christmas so all our family would know when we saw them. Unfortunately, he managed to slip up and mention that it would indeed be before then, however, there were still a few weeks to go and multiple dates when it could have happened. I became on edge and excited every time we went somewhere thinking 'will this be the day? Maybe it's today?!' But it wasn't. I kept getting my hopes up and then being disappointed that it didn't happen.

Time was running out...

We returned from a trip up the Gold Coast with Jacobs Mum late at night on the 15th of December. Jacob said to me "I need you to wake up at 4am and get ready. Walk into my room and watch the video on my laptop. Don't get too excited though because it's not what you think it is". Well I questioned if it wasn't a proposal, then what would it be? However, I also didn't want to get my hopes up only to be disappointed again.

16th December 4am

I woke up excited and nervous at the same time. Outside of my room was a trail of rose petals leading to Jacobs room. I then found his laptop open with a video and a blindfold beside it. The video instructed me to get ready (there was a dress ready for me to wear in the bathroom) and be downstairs by 5:00 with the blindfold on.

16th December 5am

We got in the car and he told me I was allowed two clues as to where we were going. I had speculated he might be taking us to watch the sunrise at Sea Cliff Bridge where he had asked me out a year before this yet the clues seemed to be leading us in the opposite direction. Little did I know these clues were completely incorrect, only to put me off and we were in fact driving to Sea Cliff Bridge. I spent the entire car ride (40 min) blindfolded and confused as to where we were. I was then guided along the bridge and down a steep path to the beaches shore.

Jacob instructed me to stay put and wait for him to call my name before I could remove the blindfold and walk towards him. At this moment it became real, the tears flowed and my heart felt overwhelmed with joy and anticipation.

He called my name and I began to walk towards him.

He had organised for some family to come early and set up rose petals and candles in the shape of a love heart.

He bought me a bunch of flowers and read me a sweet letter before getting down on one knee and proposing.

I never knew quite how I would feel being proposed to, especially when I knew it was coming. I mean, could it feel the same if it wasn't entirely a surprise?

Definitely. It was surreal and beautiful, a moment I could never forget.
