5 NIGHTS IN MELBOURNE

Jacob and I recently took a road trip to Victoria where we stayed in Melbourne for five nights, Port Campbell for three and Ballarat for one. As much as we would have liked to travel overseas, a road trip here in Australia was the more affordable option. Victoria has plenty to offer and as it was only our second holiday together as a married couple, we were pretty happy to go anywhere. If you are interested in road-tripping here yourself, or simply want to find out more about our trip, have a read below!

Where To Stay:
Jacob and I stayed in an Airbnb in St Kilda. St Kilda is located on the coast of Victoria and is less then 10km from the city. Staying on the outskirts of the city is much more affordable than staying in the city itself. We also found Airbnb's to be the most economic option as you can easily find one with everything you need (kitchen, bathroom, carport etc). Due to the fantastic transport system in Melbourne, it is relatively easy to get around without a car. Just be sure to check for nearby tram stations before booking your accommodation.
What to see & Do:
Despite having a list of things I wanted to do in Melbourne including visiting the zoo, watching the penguins come in at St Kilda beach and visiting the Peninsula Hot Springs, we mostly spent our days shopping. In fact we went shopping every single day! From the numerous outlets that catered for Jacob and I, to the individual stores we found in the CBD's streets, there was just so many shops to shop at. Traveling at the end of the financial year also meant it was a good time for finding great specials.
If you are one who loves to shop for second hand clothes or household items, Melbourne is also a great place for this. We picked up some great bargains when we accidentally stumbled across a few Op Shops in St Kilda close to where we were staying.
Other then shopping however, I'd recommend checking out the art at Hosier Lane, exploring the city's many laneways, visiting St Kilda beach, Dandenong Ranges National Park and the Peninsula Hot Springs.

Best mode of transport:
As we were staying so close to the city, there was limited street parking everywhere. If our Airbnb didn't have a designated car spot for us, it would have been really difficult to find a park. Because of this, we didn't end up driving much in Melbourne. We simply took the trams everywhere! Initially it took us some time to figure out how the tram lines worked and which tram stop was the best for where we were headed. Yet after a few days we found them really easy to use. The city also has a free tram zone that circles around the city. This is especially helpful for visiting the most popular spots in the CBD. We decided that if we were to return to Melbourne and only Melbourne, we would fly and skip the 9 hour road trip.

Where to eat:
There is literally so much choice! However some of the best spots to eat in the city are Degraves Street and Centre Place. These laneways are not only filled with great cafes and restaurants to eat at, but are also full of culture and atmosphere. Even if you weren't after a meal, I'd recommend exploring the lane ways anyway!
If you are not only a foodie, but are also a coffee lover, you will certainly love Melbourne. Melbourne prides itself in it's coffee making expertise. Check out Brother Baba Budan, Seven Roasters, St Ali and many more for a great coffee.

Brought back memories of the time I spent with our Barbershop Chorus and Quartet in the Victoria Hotel, and busked around the fascinating alleys in the City.
